The mission of the Old Dominion University Department of Music is "to train capable, effective music educators and performers and to guide the early education of students of music history, theory, composition and jazz."
Since accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music since 1978, four graduate and undergraduate degrees with fifteen concentrations, as well as two certification programs and one undergraduate minor are offered. The Department of Music also presents "more than 120 recitals, concerts, and master classes" each year.
